Behind The Art: Bob Marley
Bob Marley is what they call a legend.
He left this world far too soon, but his music and message continue to live on. His songs have crossed generations. My mother sang them. I've sung them. My children sing them. That kind of legacy is rare.
Bob's music has always carried messages of peace, love, unity, and brotherhood. No matter where you come from, those messages still matter today.
When I painted Bob Marley, I wanted the artwork to feel like his music sounds. Colorful. Vibrant. Alive. Every color represents the energy, hope, and spirit that made him one of the most influential artists the world has ever known.
Growing up in Hip-Hop, reggae was always close by. The two cultures have always shared a common thread — real stories, real struggles, and music that speaks for the people. That connection made this painting feel natural to me.
One of the most meaningful moments connected to this piece happened when I visited Jamaica for the first time. I had the opportunity to visit Bob Marley's mausoleum, and with permission from his estate, I placed a print of this painting inside.
Knowing that a piece of my artwork now rests where one of my musical heroes is honored is something I'll never forget.
If you ever make the trip to Jamaica, take a look inside and see if you can find it.
If you do...
Tell Bob I said, "Hello... good night."
