Behind The Art: Blue Depths
Some paintings are born from an idea. This one was born from gratitude.
I was streaming on Twitch when one of the people who supported my channel donated. He had been a real benefactor to what I was building, so I asked him if I could paint something for him as a thank you.
He told me he was a huge shark enthusiast and said I could paint him anything shark-related.
That was all I needed.
I have always loved sharks. I have had the chance to scuba dive with sharks and swim with sharks in the Caribbean, and being that close to them changed how I looked at them. They are not just something to fear. They are perfectly built for their environment. Every movement has purpose. Every shape has function. They are powerful, silent, and completely at home in the water.
That is what I wanted to capture in Blue Depths.
The original was painted as an 18 x 24 inch acrylic on canvas, using deep blues, smooth movement, and strong highlights to give the shark presence without making it feel like a monster. I wanted the piece to feel powerful. Not loud. Not chaotic. Just strong.
The original now lives with a collector in San Jose, California, which makes the story even more meaningful to me. It started as a thank you during a Twitch stream and became a piece connected to support, trust, and someone’s personal love for sharks.
Blue Depths is a reminder that real strength does not always have to announce itself. Sometimes it moves quietly beneath the surface.
